From 2018 to 2025, I have actively helped to shape the festival layout, working in collaboration with my colleagues to establish the following programs and goals:

• The Annual Heritage Square Book Fair: Beginning in 2022, this event brings together over thirty different and growing Arizona/Southwest organizations, presses, and nonprofits to table and celebrate book arts in Flagstaff’s historic Heritage Square by coordinating table and audio rentals, collaborating with the Downtown Business Association in securing permits, coordinating on-going stage events, volunteers, etc.
• Flagstaff Youth Poet Laureate: Spearheaded Provided mentorship and opportunities for the Youth Poet Laureate program
• Fronteras, a Latine reading series: This reading series has partnered with authors throughout the Southwest.
• Expand our social media reach through social channels such as Instagram and Facebook, work with local news media outlets to promote the festival including radio, news, online, etc.

What began as a wild idea soon became a crazy experiment in vulnerability, compassion, listening, and writing towards the world we live in. Poet Brews began as an open mic for writers with no features and no real rules other than being kind to the writer on the stage, staying within the ten minute sign up slot, and being curious. In March 2023, Flagstaff Brewing Company let me coordinate and host the very first open mic for writers. Since then, I have coordinated the event and have invited guest hosts (from many organizations such as The Thalweg, Thin Air Magazine, Carbon Copy, etc.) to help celebrate this writing community. We see an average of two hours of poetry, fiction, nonfiction, and uncategorizable writing from all over Northern Arizona on any given Tuesday night.
